Ferguson clash

Tensions are high in anticipation of a grand jury's decision on whether to indict white Ferguson, Missouri, police officer Darren Wilson for the Aug. 9 shooting death of unarmed black teen Michael Brown. Last night, protesters lined up and chanted, taunting 31 officers, mostly from St. Louis County, for about an hour, as the officers secured the perimeter of the police station. But, according to a CBS News producer on-scene, demonstrators then moved into the street and blocked a handful of cars. That's when things turned ugly.

Obama on immigration

President Obama last night defended the actions he's taking to shield about 5 million immigrants in the U.S. illegally from deportation as "lawful" and consistent with what his predecessors have done. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, promised to fight back.

Back to Mexico

Last December, Julisa Avila was walking near some train tracks outside of Phoenix with her mom. They say they did not see a "No Trespassing" sign. Her mom was arrested. But, CBS News correspondent Ben Tracy reports, 36-year-old Norma Bernal was also an unauthorized immigrant, so she was deported back to Mexico.

Immigration before

It was one of the top priorities of President George W. Bush's second term, and he gave scores of speeches to try to convince Congress and the American people to support it. He always felt that the failure of his immigration reform effort resulted in the assumption by some that Republicans don't like immigrants.

Social smog

China has some of the world's worst air pollution. But tracking it in all but the biggest cities can be impossible, since local governments don't release any data to the public. So researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison have come up with an innovative solution: If you can't follow the pollution itself, follow the complaints about it on social media.

Airbag rant

A U.S. Air Force lieutenant who was injured in one eye when a defective airbag deployed in her car during a 2013 crash excoriated the company behind that airbag and the automaker that manufactured her car, telling a congressional panel that Takata and Honda had failed to protect consumers when they didn't provide sufficient warnings about a product defect.

Girl toys

"The Hunger Games" is already a more than $1.5 billion movie franchise, and the new sequel, "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part One" opens today. Its studio, Lionsgate, predicts it will bring in $130-to-$150 million dollars over the weekend. Lee Woodruff reports on how even toy companies are cashing in on the Katniss "tough girl" trend.

More accusers

A Florida woman who came forward Thursday became the latest in recent weeks to say Bill Cosby gave her pills that made her feel groggy, then forced himself on her sexually.

Depressing ceiling

Getting more responsibility at work may sound like the road to success and happiness, but for some career women it appears to have a very different effect: depression.

Everyman

Tom Hanks' films have grossed more than $8 billion worldwide. He's won multiple Oscars, Golden Globes and Emmys. Now, another accolade: He's one of five performers named as a 2014 Kennedy Center Honoree. "CBS This Morning" co-host Gayle King sat down with Hanks to talk about his amazing career.
