Wildfire in Vacaville, Calif., forces evacuations
VACAVILLE, Calif. - A wildfire that has burned more than 320 acres is threatening homes in a Northern California city.
The fire started around 10 p.m. Saturday, and wind gusts up to 40 mph are fanning the flames, said Vacaville city spokesman Mark Mazzaferro.
The winds are "making it difficult for our crews out there," he said.
Vacaville is between San Francisco and Sacramento.
CBS Sacramento reports that more than 100 people have already taken shelter at an evacuation center.
Mazzaferro said several homes are threatened, but evacuations are voluntary. No structures have burned.
Mazzaferro said about 130 firefighters from several crews are battling the fire. The fire was 15 percent contained around 2 a.m. Sunday, he said.
He said it's too early to know the cause.
California is in the midst of a four-year drought.
"It's bone dry out there," Mazzaferro said. "Talk about a recipe for a big fire."
