Suspect surrenders after hours-long San Francisco armed standoff
SAN FRANCISCO -- An hours-long standoff between an armed suspect barricaded in a San Francisco residential hotel ended peacefully Friday evening when the suspect surrendered to officers shortly after 9 p.m., CBS San Francisco reports.
The SFPD special operations unit is checking the apartment for weapons and anything that might be hazardous.
The call came in after someone doing pest control work in the building went to an apartment. The apartment’s resident pulled a gun and the exterminator fled, said police spokesman Sgt. Michael Andraychak.
Police confirmed shortly before 3 p.m. that a suspect was barricaded in a building, later identified as the Crown Hotel.
Members of the department’s crisis and hostage negotiation team were at the scene attempting to communicate with the suspect, according to the SFPD.
Police officers and SWAT team members could be seen on rooftops and fire escapes on the block. Despite the shelter in place order, large crowds had gathered on the corners near the shelter-in-place.
