Vladimir Putin adviser's death in Washington hotel ruled an accident

A Russian political figure’s death in a Washington, D.C., hotel last year has been ruled an accident, authorities said Friday.

Mikhail Lesin, a media executive who advises Russian President Vladimir Putin, was found dead in his hotel room in early November.

The chief medical examiner’s office said Lesin sustained injuries that resulted in his death while alone in his room, according to a statement from the U.S. attorney’s office.

Lesin’s injuries came “after days of excessive consumption of alcohol,” according to the statement.

The investigation into Lesin’s death has been closed.
