Outspoken Maine governor to Trump: "Get over yourself"

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine --  The blunt-spoken Maine governor who described himself as “Donald Trump before Donald Trump became popular” has advice for the Republican presidential nominee: “Get over yourself.”

Republican Gov. Paul LePage made the remark on WGAN-AM on Thursday after hearing Trump has declined to commit to accepting the election results.

He called Trump’s comments an “absolute stupid move” and advised him to “take your licks and let’s move on.”

LePage saved his harshest criticism for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. He described her campaign as a “criminal enterprise” and said she’s “buying the country.”

He said he agrees with Trump that the election is “rigged.” But he said it’s because the media have given Clinton “a free pass.”

LePage made headlines this summer for making racially insensitive comments, by saying photos he collected of drug dealers arrested in the state show more than 90 percent of them are black or Hispanic.

The governor made the remark at a town hall in North Berwick. His comment came after a businessman asked how he could bring a company to Maine, “given the rhetoric you put out there about people of color,” the Portland Press Herald reported.

LePage, who’s white, said at the time that he keeps a three-ringed binder of photos from drug busts, and most “are black and Hispanic people from Waterbury, Connecticut; the Bronx; and Brooklyn.”
