The Commission on Presidential Debates on Friday said in a statement that Donald Trump’s audio had issues at the first debate four days earlier and that it affected the sound in the room.

“Regarding the first debate, there were issues regarding Donald Trump’s audio that affected the sound level in the debate hall,” the bipartisan commission said in its very brief statement Friday afternoon.

The statement comes four days after the GOP presidential nominee debated Hillary Clinton for the first time at Hofstra University on Long Island. Trump was heard sniffling throughout the debate.

The morning after the two nominees faced off, Trump complained on Fox News’ “Fox and Friends” that there was an issue with his microphone.

“I had a problem with a microphone that didn’t work. I don’t know if you saw that in the room. My microphone was terrible. I wonder if it was set up that way on purpose,” Trump said. “My microphone in the room -- they couldn’t hear me, it was going on and off which isn’t exactly great. I wonder if it was set up that way, but it was terrible. When I tested it, it was beautiful like an hour before. I said, ‘What a great mic. It was on and off and it was much lower than hers. I don’t want to believe in conspiracy theories of course, but it was much lower than hers and it was crackling. She didn’t have that problem That was to me a bad problem if you have a bum mic, it’s not exactly good.”

Polls taken afterwards say that most people believe Clinton won the debate.

The vice presidential debate between Republican Mike Pence and Democrat Tim Kaine will be held on Tuesday and the second presidential debate between Trump and Clinton will be held Oct. 9.
