Will Bill Clinton be in the audience for the first Democratic debate?

Bill Clinton will not be in the room for his wife's first 2016 presidential debate, but he will be watching Hillary Clinton take on the rest of the Democratic field.

John Podesta, Hillary Clinton's campaign chairman, told CNN that Clinton will just be viewing the debate on TV, instead of at the Wynn Las Vegas, the venue for the debate. CBS News' Nancy Cordes talked with Clinton's communications director, Jennifer Palmieri, who says that there's no set plan, but the most likely possibility is that he will watch the debate in his hotel room.

The former president also did not attend a single one of the 25 debates Hillary Clinton participated in during the 2008 contest for the Democratic nomination.

Bill Clinton arrived in Las Vegas with his wife Monday, but he has been keeping a low profile and did not appear with her when she visited Culinary Union protesters who were protesting in front of the Trump Hotel Las Vegas later that afternoon.

Bill Clinton has been largely unseen during Hillary Clinton's campaign so far, although he did fill in for her at a fundraiser for her in Chicago last month, according to the Associated Press, which also reported that he was raising money at other events for her and other Democrats. He has indicated, reported the AP, that he would be open to raising money for the Democratic super PAC supporting her campaign.

The 2016 Democratic presidential candidates will take the debate stage for the first time Tuesday night, Oct. 13, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Hosted by CNN and Facebook and sanctioned by the Democratic National Committee (DNC), the debate will be held at the Wynn Las Vegas, and Anderson Cooper will moderate.
