CBSN and Instagram announce partnership for presidential debates

CBSN, CBS News’ 24/7 digital streaming news service, is partnering with Instagram to feature curated Instagram stories in its live coverage of the upcoming presidential and vice presidential debates.

CBSN is the first network to feature Instagram Stories in live coverage.

Here’s what you can expect: Instagram stories created by CBSN anchors and CBS News correspondents and contributors – including Gayle King, Norah O’Donnell, Nancy Cordes, Vladimir Duthiers, Major Garrett, Reena Ninan, Will Rahn and Bob Schieffer – will be integrated into CBSN’s coverage before and after each debate alongside Instagram stories from experts and voters across the country.

“Throughout this campaign, CBSN has highlighted new voices on new screens to bring politics to life, making a partnership with Instagram, which focuses on stories, a natural fit,” Christy Tanner, senior vice president and general manager of CBS News Digital, said.

CBSN will use the real-time audience engagement platform Connect Live from social technology company Telescope to deliver Instagram Stories live on air.

CBSN will offer full coverage before, during and after the debates starting at 7 p.m. ET. The first of three scheduled presidential debates is Monday, Sept. 26.

The vice presidential debate, moderated by CBSN’s Elaine Quijano, is Tuesday, Oct. 4.

CBSN continues to increase viewership, especially during this election season. The streaming service set a two-week viewership record for its coverage of the Republican and Democratic National Conventions, drawing nearly 14 million streams during both weeks.

CBSN is currently available on CBSNews.com, connected TV devices and gaming consoles including Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, PlayStation4, PlayStation3, Roku players and Roku TV models, Xbox One, and Xbox 360, as well as the CBS News mobile apps for Android, iOS and Windows 8.1.
