Astronaut tweets super typhoon view from space
Astronaut Reid Wiseman is far above the eye of the storm, using Twitter to share a stunning image of the super typhoon known as Vongfong.
"I've seen many from here, but none like this," Reid tweeted from his @astro_reid handle aboard the International Space Station on Thursday. His aerial snapshot of the super typhoon shows the strongest storm of 2014 as it takes aim at Japan.
Vongfong is expected to reach Japan over the weekend, hitting Okinawa first, followed by the country's main island.
Super typhoons are storms that reach maximum sustained 1-minute surface winds of at least 150 miles per hour, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Reid, who arrived at the space station in March and is expected to return home in November, is no stranger to sharing his journey from above, which is probably why his growing social media following stands at around 315,000 people.
