Flights resume at London's Heathrow Airport after reported drone sighting
Flights at London's Heathrow Airport resumed after departures were briefly suspended Tuesday over a reported drone sighting, officials said. The announcement came about 90 minutes after police received a report about a drone sighting in the vicinity of airport.
Officials did not provide details about the suspension but said more information should be forthcoming. "Based on standard operating procedures, working with Air Traffic Control and the Met Police, we have resumed departures out of Heathrow following a short suspension," the airport said in a statement.
Police did not confirm if a drone actually flew near the airport.
Last month, flights were suspended at Gatwick Airport after drone sightings, leaving tens of thousands of passengers stranded or delayed for nearly 36 hours. The Gatwick closure led to more than 100,000 people being stranded or delayed, the worst ever drone-related disruption at an international airport.
