Dozens killed in blast at Kabul mosque
KABUL, Afghanistan -- An Afghan official at the Interior Ministry said a suicide bombing Friday at a Shiite mosque in western Kabul had killed at least 30 people and wounded 45.
Maj. Gen. Alimast Momand said the attacker was on foot and walked into to the Imam Zaman Mosque in the city's Dashti Barch area where he detonated his explosives.
The head of the area's Isteqlal Hospital, Mohammad Sabir Nassib, said it had received the bodies of two people slain in the attack as well as two wounded.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
It comes at the end of a week that has seen more than 100 Afghan security forces murdered in a spate of suicide and gun attacks by the Taliban across the country.
The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has also claimed deadly bombings in Afghanistan and elsewhere specifically targeting Shiites, whom the Sunni terror group views as illegitimate Muslims.
Kabul police spokesman Basir Mujahid told CBS News that gunfire was heard at the mosque after the initial blast on Friday.
