Police: Remains of four newborns found in storage locker

WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- Police say they have discovered the remains of as many as four dead infants in a storage locker in the central Canadian city of Winnipeg.

Winnipeg Const. Eric Hofley said Tuesday concerned employees at the storage locker company called police Monday afternoon and, once inside, police found what appeared to be the remains of up to four infants. He says the remains were so decomposed, it's not clear if police are dealing with three or four bodies.

He says the victims appear to be "very, very young" and could be newborns.

Autopsies were being conducted. Members of the child abuse unit are also investigating, reports CBC News, but until the autopsies have determined what the cause of this is, police will not know what the charges will be, says Hofley.

"All that information will hopefully be determined as the days progress. We will have further information tomorrow [Wednesday], I do know that for a fact," Hofley told CBC News reporters.

He says police are talking to a few people, but the remains don't appear to be linked to any infants that have been reported missing.
